Almost four years ago, after a multimillion-dollar renovation, the Holiday Inn across from the Santa Monica Pier reopened as The Pierside, a surprisingly quiet place to stay, anchored by a chilled-out spot to eat, The Surfing Fox. The restaurant and gathering spot hosts activities year-round, and on Sept. 29, it will celebrate National Coffee Day by offering guests $1 coffee (including espresso drinks).
