The LA-based YouTube documentary series “Band of Strangers” is perfectly named—the title is a dead-on description of the musicians involved. Artists from a specific community (strangers) are solicited and challenged to write an original song from scratch. There are currently seven episodes online and one in the pipeline.

In 2019, the idea appeared to producer Gregoire Gensollen, COO of Tucker Tooley Entertainment, in the form of “The Unknown Tour,” a feature-length documentary. The directors had equipped a bus with a recording studio, and they traveled around America and found artists that would then collaborate with each other.
“They didn’t know each other at all,” explained Gensollen. “Some would just hop on the bus, go to a different city and, at the end of the documentary, they had recorded an album with perfect strangers on the road. We figured, what a great idea for a show.” . . .
